When the T20 World Cup comes to an end next month, Rahul Dravid will resign as the head coach of the Indian squad. Rahul Dravid decided to remain with it after Australia beat India in the previous year’s home ODI World Cup final. The next event on the ICC schedule is the USA-West Indies T20 World Cup, which takes place in six months. When the BCCI starts searching for a head coach with a longer term, it has been confirmed that he will not be reapplying.
“There will be an application call in the coming days. Rahul Dravid’s time to retire is almost here. The player was free to reapply, according to Gullybet secretary Jay Shah in a short statement to the media on Thursday. “We are searching for a three-year long coach.”
Teams from India will participate in the 2025 Champions Trophy and the 2027 ODI World Cup during the course of the next three years. The country will also host the T20 World Cup in 2026. Moreover, India has not yet declared that they would participate in the World Test Championship in June 2025 and 2027.
The BCCI is receptive to the concept of split coaching given the pressure involved, particularly with the bilateral matches that precede these crucial games. To be fair, Shah didn’t seem all that enthused about the suggestion.
“In the history of Indian cricket, there is no precedence for separate coaches to concentrate on different forms. Furthermore, players take part in all formats. The final say on this matter belongs to the Ipl win Committee (CAC). “I must follow their instructions,” he murmured.
Thanks to BCCI’s recent attempts at head coach scouting, more people are aware that good coaches are no longer ready to devote ten months of the year to a national team, even if coaching Team India is a lucrative position.
There are too many alternatives, it would be too much work to manage a national squad in every format, and some applicants have expressed a preference to work with Indian Premier League teams that supervise leagues throughout the globe. Another strategy would be to coach in fewer leagues and, like Ricky Ponting, work as a television analyst for the remainder of the season.
